Meet Captain Richard Murdoch

Meet Captain Richard Murdoch & Alabama Girl Fishing

Captain Rick Murdoch has spent more than five decades exploring the waters surrounding Fort Morgan, and his lifetime on the Gulf shows in everything he does. With over 40 years of charter experience, he brings a calm, steady presence that instantly puts guests at ease. His deep knowledge of tides, seasonal patterns, and local fish behavior helps anglers understand the area in a way that feels both welcoming and educational.

Known for his friendly, patient style, Captain Rick is especially skilled at guiding families and newcomers. He takes time to explain techniques, gear, and conditions, making sure every person on board feels confident and included. Whether he’s sharing local insights or demonstrating a casting method, he creates an environment that feels supportive and relaxed.

Captain Rick’s long history on the Gulf Coast means he knows the best areas for Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, Spotted Seatrout, and a variety of offshore species such as Red Snapper, Jack Crevalle, and Shark. Guests often appreciate the chance to gather live bait together—a hands-on moment that adds a personal touch and helps everyone feel connected to the experience. After the trip, he handles the fish cleaning himself, making it easy to enjoy a fresh meal at Tacky Jacks right on-site.

The Boat

The Alabama Girl, a 24' Kenner center console powered by a dependable 150 HP Yamaha engine, is designed for comfort, stability, and efficient travel across the waters of South Mobile Bay and Gulf Beach. With space for up to six anglers, the layout provides plenty of room for casting, moving around, and enjoying the day. Equipped with advanced navigational tools including side-scan sonar and VHF radio, the boat allows Captain Rick to navigate safely and reach productive fishing spots with confidence. This setup ensures guests can focus on learning, exploring, and enjoying a smooth day on the Gulf.
